Myanmar In Penang

The Burmese and Eurasians were the earliest settlers in Pulau Tikus. The Burmese had formed a settlement here in the early 19th century, and their presence remained until the early part of the 20th century. At that time, there was a Burmese village here called Kampong Ava - probably named after the town of Ava (today Inwa) in Myanmar. When the British administrators created the main road here, they named it Burmah Road. Off shoots of Burmah Road were also named after places inBurma . Hence we now have road names that are of Burmese origin including Burmah, Irrawaddi, Mandalay, Moulmein, Salween, Tavoy and Thaton.

Percetakan Pertama Di Buat Di Pulau PInang

Suratkhabar yang pertama di negara ini telah diterbitkan pada tahun 1805 di Pulau Pinang dan dikenali sebagai Prince of Wales Island Gazette. Penerbitan ini dihentikan pada tahun Ogos 1827 tetapi kembali pada bulan Julai 1833.

Ia merupakan perintis kepada Penang Gazette yang telah bermula pada tahun 1837 apabila Mr. F. Carnegy, seorang pedagang di Pulau Pinang membeli percetakan/penerbitan dan peralatan dari Singapore Chronicle selepas ianya ditutup dan kemudian dipindahkan ke Pulau Pinang. Gabungan penerbitan ini dikenali sebagai "Penang Gazette and Straits Chronicle" yang beribu pejabat di Gudang Messrs. Mc Alister & Co.

Old And New

This is unique as the old and the new survived side by side.

Anyway the coffee shop is non-halal. At the New World Park, they have stalls which was mostly transferred from the Swatow Lane road side stalls. The most famous is the Ice Kacang. I cannot guarantee that it is Halal but I saw a lot of muslims do enjoyed their shaved ice Penang style there. Although I have not tried it before.

There also have a few restaurants that have Halal certificate like Old Town White Coffee and the Korean BBQ Chicken.

Sculpture At KOMTAR Penang

Penang like most city have been blessed with sculptures by many talented artist. Most of the sculptures are gift given to the state. This is one of the unique sculpture that is displayed at KOMTAR.

Adik Manja De Conner

This spot sells at night Char Koey Tiau (as they spell it) but at noon it sells economy Malay cuisines.
They have from GuLai Ikan Sembilang to Ulam. It is a mix of Kampung Style food and normal Malay cuisine.
The food taste excellent and it attracts crowds from nearby office lots and also from USM.
It also have Ikan Bakar, Sotong Bakar (which is a must try)and a few more grill items.

The shop is situated infront of USM nearby KFC in Sungai Dua.

It has WIFI facility as from here you can tap Bali-Bali WIFI.

Kambing Kampung Pelet

It is a wonderful experience to dine here at The Puncak Mutiara Cafe at Kampung Pelet Bukit Mertajam.
Kampung Pelet is at the border of Penanti and Kubang Semang Bukit Mertajam.
The place where they breed a few animals including goat and rabbit has been commercialize to include a 'Kampung Style' restaurant.
There actually a signage by the road side to guide visitors to the place. The road going to the restaurant also could excite some.
The food for me is fantastic but the you have to bear with the service.
As I believe they still cannot estimate the visitors to the restaurant, you may find that some of the food could not be ordered.

One set of Briyani Kambing could cost you up to RM12.00.
We ordered Briyani Ayam Kampung that cost us RM6.00 per plate.
'Kambing Grill' which cost RM20.00 per plate is fantastic.
The black paper sauce is very tasty.
